It’s no secret rap has seen its fair share of talentless troll artists in the past couple of years.
The simple user interface and conduciveness to crowd-building of SoundCloud, combined with the growing shock-value obsession of viral social media content practically guaranteed that happening.
Fortunately enough, up-and-coming acts are restoring what it means to really know how to really rap. Swag rap is dying, and content-rich music is making a comeback in hip-hop. Formerly dubbed mumble rapper of the Migos trio Offset actually said so himself. And newer artist Blueface — though not know for his lyrical dexterity — was recently quoted saying, “I want people to pay attention to my lyrics.”
Clearly, there is a demand for quality again in rap…which brings us to J.I.D.
After releasing his first EP Dicaprio in 2015, J.I.D. signed to Dreamville — one of the hottest labels out, led by industry icon and rap’s self-proclaimed middle child J. Cole.
Since, he’s dropped two full albums, The Never Story (2017) and DiCaprio 2 (2019), both receiving highly favorable ratings and each respectively growing his fan base.
He’s been featured on every major radio show, has toured through the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand…
